Planet Zoo 2 Habitat Planner
Choose up to four species and how many of each you want to keep together. The planner adds up what the official Zoopedia lists for every one of them: area by type for your head count, shelter, the barrier that holds all of them, and the temperature range they all accept. It also flags pairs that are not listed as compatible and head counts outside the listed group size.
How the numbers are worked out
For each species the Zoopedia gives a minimum for the first animal and an extra amount for every animal after it, separately for land, water, deep water, flight and climbing space. So five animals need the first-animal minimum plus four times the extra amount. Shelter is listed per animal, so it is multiplied by the head count.
The Zoopedia does not say how the game combines the needs of several species in one habitat. The planner therefore shows two figures per area type: the largest single requirement, which the habitat has to reach in any case, and all species added up, which leaves room for every group. Planning for the second figure is the safer choice.
The barrier is the strictest of the species you picked: the highest grade, the tallest minimum height, climb-proof if any of them needs it, and a water barrier only if every species allows one. The temperature range is the overlap of every species' range; if there is no overlap, the species cannot share one climate.
Worked example: an African grassland habitat
Plains Zebra, Masai Giraffe and Blue Wildebeest are listed as thriving with each other. With 4 zebras, 3 giraffes and 6 wildebeest:
| Species | Animals | Land | Shelter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plains Zebra | 4 | 880 m² | 40 m² |
| Masai Giraffe | 3 | 1750 m² | 75 m² |
| Blue Wildebeest | 6 | 610 m² | 60 m² |
The largest single need is 1750 m² of land for the Masai Giraffe group; all three added up come to 3240 m², with 175 m² of shelter. All three accept 14 to 36 °C, and a grade 2 barrier at least 1.25 m high holds them. Giraffes set the size of this habitat: a single giraffe already needs more land than four zebras.
What the planner does not cover
Terrain mix, water depth layout, food, enrichment and guest views are not in the Zoopedia data, so they are not checked here. Compatibility comes from the neutral and thriving lists on each animal's page; a pair that neither page lists is shown as not listed, which may mean the game treats it as incompatible. For one species at a time, each animal page shows the totals for its largest group; for every listed pairing, see what animals go together; for barrier specs side by side, see habitat requirements.
FAQ
Does Planet Zoo 2 add the space of every species in a mixed habitat?
The Zoopedia lists each species' own minimum and does not say how the game combines them. The planner shows both the largest single requirement and the sum, so you can see the range; planning for the sum leaves room for every species.
Why does a species show no area?
Exhibit animals and a few others have no minimum area in the Zoopedia, so they add nothing to the totals. Their temperature range and group size still count.
